Secondary school students from across East Lancashire have been immersing themselves in the world of technology and cyber education as part of Lancashire Cyber Education Week (3rd – 7th February).
Year 10 students from Marsden Heights, The Hollins, and Hyndburn Academy participated in hands-on sessions at Accrington and Rossendale College, while Colne Primet Academy students enjoyed activities at the Nelson and Colne College Campus on Tuesday 4th February.
The activities were organised as part of the Lancashire Cyber Festival 2025, offering students from Key Stage 1 through Higher Education an exciting opportunity to engage in tasks designed to enhance their digital skills and understanding, while preparing for the future of technology.
The focus was on helping students explore the future of technology and cybersecurity, providing them with valuable insights into the industry, with one computer science student from Hyndburn Academy commenting: “I have learnt a lot about virtual reality and cyber security that I had no idea about before.”
Nafisa Naheed, Digital Curriculum Leader and organiser of the on-campus Cyber Festival activities, said: “The day was filled with engaging cyber activities designed to spark interest and provide insights into potential career paths with the opportunity for students to speak to exciting guest speakers like Charlie and Kien from Lancashire Constabulary and Heath from Sundown Solutions Ltd.
“Students explored the world of virtual reality through VR headsets, honing their communication and problem-solving skills along the way.
“The day was a resounding success, with students and staff alike gaining valuable skills and experiences.”
Heath Groves, CEO of Sundown Solutions Ltd and guest speaker at Accrington and Rossendale College, said: ‘Today I’ve been discussing generative AI to fresh new minds.
“The sessions have been absolutely fantastic, and the children have been on point. They all wanted to listen and clearly, they all have a lot of fantastic questions. It’s been a fantastic day all round.”
