Accrington and Rossendale College student Keira Whelan-Baxter is on her way to a career as an early years educator – and impressed so much on her work placement, that her employer gave her a full-time job!

Described by her nominator for the Level 3 Student of the Year Award as mature, popular with her peers and with a can-do positive mindset, Keira was assessed whilst on placement, passing with flying colours. In fact, she was encouraged to share the secret of her success with others as “best practice.”

Keira is now well on the way to her minimum target grade of A/B on her NCFE CACHE (the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) Level 3 Technical Diploma in Childcare and Education.

Her nominating tutor Louise Hudson, commented: “Keira is an excellent ambassador for the college and was recently chosen to represent us in a skills competition competing against a group of local colleges, to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and behaviours she has developed over the two years at college.”

Congratulation Keira, Nelson and Colne College Group’s very first Level 3 Student of the Year!
