Accrington and Rossendale College has made huge strides in its achievement levels – jumping more than 100 places in the National Achievement Rate Tables.
The newly-published tables released by the Department for Education show that Accrington and Rossendale College is now in the top 10 colleges in the country for 16-18 timely Apprenticeship achievement, at all levels – jumping 50 places from 59 th to ninth.
The college is also now 10th nationally for 16-18 classroom learner achievement at Level 3, moving up 91 places from a previous position of 101st in the country.
Timely Apprenticeship achievement, at all ages and all levels, has seen the college make even greater strides, jumping 130 places from 147th nationally to 17th. The college’s position in terms of classroom learning achievement, at all ages and all levels, has also seen a similarly huge upturn with the college leaping 126 places from 152nd place nationally to 26th in the country.
The figures are calculated from results achieved by students and Apprentices in the 2017/18 academic year, and the huge jumps in achievement are made comparing figures against the 2016/17 academic year.
Principal of Accrington and Rossendale College Amanda Melton, said: “The leap in achievement rates at Accrington and Rossendale College are out of this world, and I’m exceptionally proud of the teaching staff who have helped support our students and Apprentices in their studies to make this performance improvement possible.
“There is still further ground that we can gain and following our successful merger with Nelson and Colne College in November 2018, I am confident that we are on track to make that continued progress. We will continue to work hard to realise the vision of becoming a combined force for greater opportunities that delivers sustained success for young people and learners right across East Lancashire and beyond.”
Oliver Shipston, 20, is completing his Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship at Rosslee Construction through Accrington and Rossendale College.
Oliver said: “I’ve really enjoyed my course at College as I have learned a wide range of new skills that I can use in the workplace and the facilities and staff here are fantastic.
“I’m aiming to become a fully qualified joiner and the skills I am gaining are enabling me to progress in my career and to carry out work to the best of my potential.”
Ellie Jade Armstrong, 16, is studying for a Level 3 Extended BTEC Diploma in Sport and Fitness. Ellie Jade said: “The teachers at Accrington and Rossendale College are lovely and make learning very interesting and engaging.
“I’m enjoying my time at Accrington and Rossendale College as it is providing me with so many opportunities. In the future I would like to set up my own fitness business and become a trainer to instruct classes, and I hope this qualification will put me on the pathway to get there.”
A Year 8, 9 and 10 Open Event will take place at Accrington and Rossendale College on Wednesday 8 May from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
