Accrington and Rossendale College student wins prestigious award
On Tuesday 17th April, level two Painting and Decorating apprentice, Megan Talbot, took home second place for the Johnstone’s Paints Young Painter of the Year award.
Now in its 14th year, Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year is a prestigious painting and decorating competition which aims to celebrate young talent.
Judged by two Skills Competition Managers of Johnstone’s Paints, Megan’s tasks included:
- Accurate setting out
- Crisp cutting in skills
- Working to a timescale
Her efforts saw her win a £100 cheque and hundreds of pounds worth of decorating equipment. Due to taking second place, Megan was also invited to compete in a further competition on Friday 27th April: Painting and Decorating Association Premier Trophy Awards – she accepted this invite and will travel to Stoke-on-Trent to compete in front of hundreds of industry professionals.
Megan works for Gladwin’s Decorators in Clitheroe (Oliver Gladwin) whilst completing her apprenticeship with Accrington and Rossendale College.
Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Principal at the college, said:
“It’s wonderful to see our students enjoying and excelling in their apprenticeships. We work very closely with businesses in and around the town to make sure our apprentices are offered the best possible chance at succeeding.
