Course Overview
This programme would appeal to anyone wanting to gain a GCSE in English.
What will I learn?
You will learn about the techniques used by writers to create a range of different types of text (articles, speeches, short stories, poetry, letters, etc). The materials used on the course will include a range of non-fiction genres as well as examples of poetry, drama (Shakespeare) and fiction.
Unit One:
- Reading Comprehension (30%) June exam
Unit Two:
- Written Paper (30%)
- June Exam 1 hour
Unit Three:
Controlled Assessments 40%
- An essay
- An extended piece of writing
- First Person writing
- Third Person writing
Unit Four:
Speaking and Listening
You will need to take part in three speaking and listening activities:
- A presentation
- A discussion
- A role play
How will the course be assessed?
Ongoing informal assessments will be used to check your progress. You will produce four pieces of controlled assessment throughout the year; two of these will be responses to literature and two will be creative writing tasks. There will also be a speaking and listening element to the course.

A4 folder, A4 paper and black pens. Plus you will need to purchase the relevant books. Details available at interview.
