As part of Women in Construction Week (6-12 March), Accrington and Rossendale College Construction students, former students and tutors supported a virtual event to celebrate and recognise ‘Women in Construction’.
A special event in collaboration with Positive Footprints in Burnley – a company passionate about changing the lives of local school children and young people, through their ‘raising aspirations’ programme which opens up the world of work, builds resilience, character and self-esteem.
Jo Norwood – Customer Relationship Manager, Positive Footprints introduced three young women linked to the College who all work in Construction:
Amber Day, Groundworker Apprentice at Accrington and Rossendale College
Destiny Mya-Robinson, former Painting and Decorating Apprentice from Accrington and Rossendale College
Megan Talbot, former Painting and Decorating Apprentice/P&D Technician at Accrington and Rossendale College
… discussing topics including – what made them choose to work in the construction sector, what obstacles they have faced working in such a male dominated industry, who inspires them and more.
Jo Norwood said “Our monthly virtual career conversations give us the opportunity to inspire pupils in our school network throughout the country. These three young women demonstrate how females can achieve great things across the construction industry. We are looking forward to sharing this on our Teams channel.”
Megan Talbot said “I’ve had a brilliant experience at Accrington and Rossendale College, and I’m so grateful for the support, guidance and knowledge that I received from my tutors Phil and Simon who really helped me to develop my skills.”
