Job Description

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Qualifications Required 

No qualification or experience is necessary if you’re joining us as an Apprentice Carer as you will be fully trained and supported through our apprenticeship program whilst working towards a qualification in Health & Social Care Diploma.

Job Description

To work with nurses and care assistants to provide 24 hour care for the residents of a nursing home

Key Duties

  • To support the nursing staff and care assistants in the following areas-
  • To provide a high standard of individualised care to each resident. Assist residents with all aspects of personal care, including washing, dressing, undressing, bathing, toileting and feeding as required, whilst promoting independence at all times.
  • To ensure that you have an awareness of the care plans for each resident and that all care given is in accordance with these.
  • To assist in encouraging residents to participate in social events and activities.
  • To assist at meal times by serving meals and ensuring that the residents are consuming adequate and proper diets. Reporting to the nurse on duty any problems in this area.
  • Help to maintain high standards of hygiene where it directly involves the residents, their belongings and any equipment.
  • To participate in meetings with residents and staff, thus helping to maintain satisfactory relationships and communications.
  • Assist the nurse on duty by carrying out designated tasks promptly and efficiently.
  • To be acquainted with the homes policies and procedures especially the ones that directly affect you, eg grievance, disciplinary and sickness procedures.
  • To assist in promotion of the home and to help raise the profile of the home with other health care professionals and the general public.

Training to be provided

This Intermediate Level 2 includes an NVQ, and the possibility of Functional Skills in English and Math’s.

Qualifications Required

No formal qualifications are required; however GCSE grade A-D in Math’s and English would be preferred.

To assist experienced staff in the day to day running of the Care Home and to maintain high standards of care and service towards service users, relatives, visitors and other members of staff.

To deliver care to service users under supervision as directed by the service user plan for that individual, reporting and changes or concerns to supervisor or senior in charge.


Report both verbally on service users general condition and well being.

Maintain a clean and safe environment for service users and staff.

Assist Carers in maintaining records and care plans on each shift under supervision where appropriate.

Make beds and use pressure care aids as directed.

Assist service users in maintaining their personal hygiene, dressing and going to bed under supervision.

Report accidents and incidents to the senior member of staff on duty.
