Services for Learners
We have a number of services available to help support you both in and out of your studies. They are available to help you get the most out of your college experience and range from extra-curricular activities (like the Duke of Edinburgh Award), to support with your learning and financial assistance. All these are run by our committed and enthusiastic members of staff.
We all need the help of others at some time. As a college student, there are many pressures on you and many new experiences and things to learn. If you encounter difficulty, there may be a resource to meet your needs.
Remember, it’s not a weakness but a sign of strength and maturity to seek help when needed!
The Information, Advice and Guidance Service is located by the main reception in the Broad Oak Centre and offers assistance with most problems. You may also wish to consider contacting the Learning Support Team as many students are surprised to learn that they may qualify for services such as extended test time, use of a tape recorder in classes and specialist hardware and software. You can just pop in and speak to an advisor or make an appointment if you prefer a more confidential setting.
Your tutors have time set aside when they are available to help you – check your timetable or the schedule posted at their office to determine when you might meet with the tutor to ask questions. If you are unsure then speak with your Personal Tutor who will ask the question for you or drop into the ‘Study Centre’ in Library+.
The Hub is staffed with qualified professionals and has many programs and resources to assist with students’ individual needs, including personal and psychological counselling and planned health sessions. The Information, Advice and Guidance Service located by the main reception in the Broad Oak Centre can assist you with planning which course is best for you. The Service is able to help you with career pathways, moving course, looking at alternative provision or to help you to create a CV and look for work. You can just pop in and speak to an advisor or make an appointment if you prefer a more confidential setting.
Student Finance is located in Info+ and they are able to assist you with all aspects of finance and money worries. You can just pop in and ask or speak to your Personal Tutor who will be able to make the initial enquiry for you.
